Subaru Rally Parts: Part 2

Stage 2

After following the guide for stage 1 modifications to your rally car, it is time for you to install an aftermarket  catback and downpipe. Adding a new exhaust system to your rally car can boost power from the engine by 45%. Aftermarket exhaust systems are used to let the engine breathe better. This increases the engine’s power. Invidia exhaust systems are high end and good quality. They offer great downpipes and catbacks at a reasonable expense. Upgrading your stage 2 system is the biggest potential boost in power you can get. Also make sure to customize the exhaust system in terms of look and sound. Choose from a quiet and clean exhaust system, or loud with a less effective catalytic converter.

The last major change you can make to boost engine power is an aftermarket air intake. Drop in panel filters can provide some boost over stock filters but to get the most you may want to choose either a cold air intake or a short ram intake. Cool air is the hardest to install but can offer the best power boost.

Stage 3

Apart from engine modifications you can instead change your rally car’s appearance in numerous ways. One possibility is purchasing and installing something like Rally Armor mudflaps. Rally decal sets are one way to add a team logo or other graphic to the side, hood, or rear of the car. Often times, if a car has a known weak point, an aftermarket performance company will step up to the plate and redesign it to make a better part. The cost of parts such as these can range in cost greatly depending on the amount of engineering involved to produce them. In some cases an OEM unit may not be able to deal with increased stress. Here, an upgraded performance car part could be used as a replacement. One example of an Aftermarket Performance auto part might be an RA gearset for a 2002-2005 Subaru WRX. This Subaru’s stock transmission gearbox assembly is prone to fail under heavier than normal driving conditions. Fortunately RA has crafted a more durable gearset.

 

Take Off Parts

Take off parts are often considered “used” by a manufacturer or parts house, but these parts have often times never actually been used. Let’s say an automotive shop is building a performance engine for a custom car. First, they will most likely purchase a complete factory short block. This includes factory pistons, bearings, connecting rods, etc. Next, they will choose to upgrade a few things such as upgrading to forged pistons (CP pistons), forged connecting rods (Eagle connecting rods), oversized valves (Ferrea), and high performance bearings (ACL, Cosworth). The shop is now left with a bunch of unused factory parts. These are typically labeled as Take off parts, because they have existed outside of their original packaging but were never used in a running condition. Take off parts are often quite cheaper than new parts and, for the most part, in new condition.
